Quality Sitka Spruce & Walnut Construction

With a combination of solid sitka spruce and walnut, the J-15 projects a broad dynamic range, plenty of sustain and clear harmonics. This sonically pleasing combo features a sitka spruce top, which generates an incredibly versatile tonality that yields crisp articulation and a broad range of dynamics. The sound sitka spruce produces accommodates numerous different genres and playing styles with equal ease. The brightly toned sitka spruce top is accompanied by walnut back and sides which offers players with a strong, clear, fundamental. Walnut, sonically offers a warm earthy sound with the overtone depth of rosewood and the clarity of mahogany.

Maple Neck & Walnut Fingerboard

Constructed from maple, the J-15's neck contributes tightness to the overall tonality, and offers a durable and stable construction. The maple neck provides players with a hint of sizzle in the highs, firm rounded lows, bright tonal characteristics, lots of bite and plenty of sustain. Although maple is a brightly toned piece of timber, its the mids that tend to have a snappier attack with a punchy, slight gnarly edge when driven with hard pick attack, as well as excellent clarity when playing light to medium fingerpicking techniques. This smooth-playing maple neck is topped with a walnut fingerboard that not only offers a pleasing aesthetic but provides a balanced, unique earthy tone. The walnut offers a stable design that brings a sonic warmth to the maples natural tone to create sizzle and a tight top end.

Round Shoulder Dreadnought

The Gibson J-15 features an iconic round shoulder dreadnought body shape which provides players with plenty of projection and maintains overall tonal balance. The big body is better suited to players with a longer reach, and those more comfortable with the dreadnought size. The sheer volume the J-15 can project makes it ideal for the singer/songwriter, as vocalists can really push their diaphragm to the max and not feel too loud against the guitar's volume, as it will sing as loud as you do. The round shoulder body delivers an impeccable dynamic range and warm minds, as well as a dominant tone that will cut through a live mix. L.R. Baggs Electronics

The Gibson J-15 features L.R. Baggs popular Element Active System which uses a low-profile undersaddle pickup connected to an onboard class A endpin preamp and volume control. The System runs off a 9-volt battery that is housed in L.R Bagg's battery bag to keep it secure to prevent any tonal loss. Each component is securely hidden away and designed to ensure the guitar's tone and projection remains pure. The Element electronics offer an incredible dynamic range that deliver a robust, lively, natural acoustic sound thanks to the sensitivity of the pickup.

Traditional Hand Scalloped X-Bracing

As with many of Gibson's acoustic range, the J-15 Studio features traditional hand scalloped X-bracing. This specific type of bracing structure consists of two braces forming an 'X' shape across the soundboard which not only enhances the sound and offers a well-balanced tone, but also provides a reinforced stable and durable structure.
