OVERVIEW

Inductors: The Crucial Component in Wah Technology
Through thorough examination of vintage units, we have successfully recreated the quintessential "Halo" inductor found in vintage wahs, giving our wahs the iconic nasal tone that is the hallmark of the Real McCoy. This accentuates midrange frequencies and adds a warm, melodic quality to lead guitar playing, emphasizing every note's articulation.

Potentiometer: An Integral Component in Wah Dynamics
As an industry expert, I would like to highlight the pivotal element driving the wah sweep - the potentiometer. To ensure a near-identical curve, meticulous adjustments were made when copying the potentiometer from the vintage unit. Both the VRM-1 and V846 Vintage models showcase distinct resistance values and curves, expertly calibrated for optimal performance.

Transistor: Precision in Component Matching
Utilizing the suitable BC108 transistor, which shares identical numbering and appearance to its vintage counterpart, ensures precise component matching. Due to the interaction with the bottom plate, which is an integral part of the transistor's terminals, careful assembly is required for this configuration. Despite the presence of comparable transistors, a custom circuit was necessary for tone adjustment due to observed tonal differences compared to components from the 1960s.

Resistor: Navigating the Evolution of Resistive Elements
In the past, "carbon composite" resistors were highly valued in guitar amplifiers. However, by the late '60s, "carbon film" resistors became the norm due to their cost-effectiveness and consistent quality. The 1968 introduction of the VOX Wah also featured carbon film resistors. In the newer VOX Wah pedals, larger 1/2W carbon film resistors are used to accurately replicate the vintage Wah sound. This shift away from chip resistors and 1/4W resistors results in an even more genuine tone.
