OVERVIEW
In 1964, the Gibson SG Standard guitar was particularly popularized by George Harrison and Eric Clapton, but all SG models saw an upswing in demand that year.
The sidepull vibrato was superseded by the reliable Maestro Vibrola, and the neck profile increased to mirror the shape found on 1959 Les Pauls. This new SG had excellent playability, balance, and look. Hence its popularity.
Gibson Custom Shop proudly unveils the new Historic Reissue, the 1964 SG Standard Reissue. Sporting the Maestro Vibrola, a chunky neck profile, and vintage-accurate components such as original construction techniques, a genuine aniline-dyed finish, replicated plastics, and exact electronic reproduction, this SG Reissue is the pinnacle of aesthetics, playability, and tone.
