Designed from the beginning as a true dual-purpose instrument, the J-160E delivers authentic unplugged tone while excelling when amplified.

Unlike its vintage predecessors that featured laminated tops and ladder bracing, the modern J-160E Original is built with a solid Sitka spruce top reinforced by Traditional Scalloped X-bracing, offering a fuller, rounder unplugged voice with improved resonance and projection. Solid mahogany back and sides contribute warmth and depth, while the round shoulder body shape produces a balanced, vintage-inspired tonal response.

The mahogany neck features Gibson’s comfortable SlimTaper™ profile and is attached using a compound dovetail neck joint with hot hide glue, maximizing tonal transfer and sustain. A bound rosewood fretboard with 20 standard frets and pearloid trapezoid inlays delivers classic Gibson styling and smooth playability.

Electrically, the J-160E Original is equipped with a J-160E P-90 DC pickup, mounted at the end of the fretboard. This pickup delivers authentic P-90 character with reduced hum for cleaner, noise-free performance. Top-mounted master volume and tone controls with 60s-style gold Top Hat knobs allow quick tonal adjustments, while the side-mounted 1/4" output jack keeps stage connections secure.

Premium hardware includes a rosewood belly-up bridge with a bone saddle, TUSQ® bridge pins, nickel Gotoh® Keystone tuners, and a bone nut for stable tuning and enhanced sustain. A Gibson hardshell case is included for dependable protection.
