OVERVIEW

The MESA 12AT7 is a high-quality, low-gain preamp tube primarily utilized in reverb stages and phase inverter positions within vintage amplifiers. It features prominently in older MESA/Boogie models (those manufactured prior to 1991) as a reverb driver, but it can also replace 12AX7 tubes in gain stages where a lower gain response is desired. The reduced gain of the 12AT7 enhances the clipping and overdrive capabilities of high-gain amplifiers, making it ideal for achieving authentic roots and traditional music styles.

This tube is equivalent to the European ECC81 and is compatible with any circuit designed for 12AT7 or ECC81 types.

Stock Availability: Bass Strategy (later models), California Tweed, Mark I reissue (Reverb Driver), Subway WD-800, Triple Crown TC-50 & TC-100. It is commonly employed as a reverb driver and phase inverter in older amplifiers, including the Studio Preamp and various Mark Series models from MESA/Boogie.
