The Yamaha BB735A 5 String Electric Bass is built for working players who need dependable performance, flexible tone and strong stage-ready construction. The BB700 Series is designed for players who need an instrument that can adapt to different genres, venues and recording situations. The combination of active and passive operation gives the BB735A the flexibility to move from clear, modern definition to more traditional passive bass character with a simple switch.
The alder/maple/alder body construction uses a hard maple center section to increase body stiffness, enhance midrange presence and improve the transfer of vibration between the neck and body. This helps the bass cut through a band mix while maintaining strong sustain and resonance.
Yamaha’s 6-bolt miter neck joint pulls the neck tightly into the body for more efficient vibration transfer than a conventional bolt-on design. The 5-piece maple and mahogany neck adds strength and stability while combining quick maple attack with the warmth of mahogany.
YGD Custom V7 pickups use Alnico V magnets to produce a thick, well-defined tone with strong articulation. The split-coil neck pickup and single-coil bridge pickup work with the pickup balancer and active 3-band EQ to cover a wide range of sounds.
The active/passive circuit has been tuned for smooth level matching between modes, with the treble control converting to a master passive tone control when the bass is switched to passive operation. Gold-plated signal contacts improve conductivity and reliability, while a rear-panel battery alert LED provides advance warning of low battery power.
The Vintage Plus bridge allows either bridge-through or body-through stringing. Body-through strings pass through at a 45-degree angle to reduce string stress while maintaining strong vibration transfer. Convertible brass saddles can also be positioned in two orientations to fine-tune response, with the rounder side producing a slightly softer sound and the more angled side providing a tighter response.
